A Frame, a Finished Piece, and Colin

A few quick updates on some things I’ve been working on.

First, I’ve just finished a frame for this painting of Valentino Community Forest. The painting will be auctioned off at the Hudson Taconic Lands Gala in a few weeks. Nice to finally take what started as a sunrise trip to the woods and a small Gouache sketch to full completion.

The frame is Chestnut Oak from trees on my Godparent’s property that had to come down as a result of the spongey moth, and was sawn as part of my Dad’s table making business. It’s a little silly to further cut down these massive boards into the small dimension sticks I use for frames, but frames are most of the woodworking I do, and it’s nice to have raw materials that are meaningful.

Second – I think this one from Garfield Rd a few weeks ago is now finished. It’s always hard to say exactly when something is finished until it’s sold. But I’m happy with the darker and still vibrantly colorful feel on this one. Paintings are meant to be in part decorations and not wrote copies of the world as seen, and that’s something I am constantly trying to remind myself of and lean into stylistically.

And lastly for this update – a quick gouache painting of Colin playing at the beach.

Until next time, thanks for reading!
